About
us
If you are new to Tulane Campus...Please, let us know that you have arrived!
We want to welcome you into our parish family. Our community offers many
opportunities for growth in faith and service to others as well as social,
family and student life activities. If you are returning to our Campus Parish...We are very glad to see you again! We
have missed you and welcome you back. Again, you are invited to participate
in our liturgies by becoming a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Mass coordinator,
or join our music group at Mass. If you have been away from the Church...Is it time to reconsider coming home? Come take ANOTHER LOOK at the Catholic way of life. And what will you find? A loving and forgiving God If you are searching for God, and have no church family...We invite you to find God through the
Catholic Church. Inquiry sessions weekly during the academic year for
those who are curious about any aspect of Catholic faith or practice. We talk. We listen. If you are inactive because you have been hurt by the church or have a marriage problem...A return to full participation in the
sacraments is our hope for you. We miss you. We need you. Without you
the Body of Christ is not complete. There are people eager to help you.
We are ready to listen. Catholic Campus Ministry at Tulane began
many years before the old Audubon Tea Room building on the corner of Audubon
and Zimple Streets was purchased. Informal efforts to bring Catholic students
together beginning in the late 1930's gradually developed into the formation
of a Newman Club, which received official university and archdiocesan
recognition in 1943. Fr. Robert E. Tracy (the future bishop of Baton Rouge)
was appointed by Archbishop Rummel as the first chaplain. He was followed
by Fr. Gerald Frey (another future bishop) and Fr. Malcolm Strassel. In
1950, Fr. James Benedict was appointed as chaplain, and it was under his
leadership that the Audubon Tea Room was purchased and converted to use
as the Catholic Student Center in 1954. Special thanks to Fr. R.B. Williams, O.P. for the information provided in this text.
